Is Scrabble Dumbing Itself Down? April 7, 2010Posted by pupfiction in Uncategorized.
Okay, my post title is purposely incendiary, but why exactly has Scrabble decided, after 62 years, to change its rules to allow proper nouns, as NPR reported it will do this July? Turns out this news that has had the literary set up in arms is not quite as bad as it seems. Scrabble will actually be releasing a new version of the game called Scrabble Trickster (according to the Baltimore Sun), in which certain cards will allow the use of a proper noun for a turn. Will purists be pacified by this latest news? What do you think?
