Highlighting Niche Blogs was always one of the most fun and interesting parts of maintaining Infomavens Desktop. Sometimes, we found blogs that were highly specific or outrageous or hilarious. This time, I thought maybe we’d ease back into it with a site that is a little more standard. The OfficeSupplyGeek blog has actually expanded since I first saw it to a full site focused on various office supply products. Like any other site that collects information about cool tools, they examine, review and discuss supplies that make office work easier, more efficient or innovative. I know, this isn’t exactly an “OMG that’s awesome, I’m going to share this link with all my friends” type niche blog. But well, I too have an obsession with office supplies, particularly writing implements, so I am personally fascinated by this site. And btw, my birthday is coming.

Ever get a text from your mom or dad, and think WTF? Maybe they said something ridiculous? Maybe it was something really mom-like and she shouldn’t have that kind of reach when you’re not home?
I read about today’s niche blog this morning in Entertainment Weekly Magazine, and decided to check it out. Some of these posts had me laughing out loud – at work! I’m going to get caught blogging if I keep checking this site – but don’t let that stop you. Tons more at When Parents Text.

Lately, we’ve had babies on the brain here at Infomavens’ Desktop, and in honor of the newest (and certainly most adorable) info-lover, today’s niche blog is a collection of silly baby photos from the folks over at I Can Has Cheezburger. I’m only going to put up one of the pictures here – but do yourself a favor and check out a few more; some of them are sooo cute!

In times like these (whatever times these may be), it’s comforting to find out that most predictions about the future (eh hem…December 21, 2012) are DEAD WRONG. How do I know most predictions are wrong? Because this wonderful blog – Paleo-Future – has documented predictions dating from as far back as the 1870s and most of them are wrong. Some make astoundingly astute predictions about the way transportation, communication, and entertainment would evolve (although no one could predict the onslaught of reality TV programming that we’ve had to suffer). But when it comes to the larger issues – population growth, global food supply, disease, war, and even natural resources…we have no clue! So enjoy the often entertaining predictions of our predecessors especially if Hurricane Earl is making your day rather dreary!

This week’s niche blog, Unitard Universe, is an impressive collection of over 150 pages of photos of Celebrities, Musicians, Superheros, Fashion Models, and Pop Culture Icons all wearing the rarely flattering, usually disturbing, sometimes nightmarish, Unitard. This is where I’d typically say, “Enjoy!” however, perhaps today it is better to say, “Good Luck!”
Some are old photos... but were unitards ever really acceptable style?

November 2, 2010 UPDATE: Unfortunately, advertisers and others have be using unauthorized copies of these pictures and the photographer/mother has removed all but one from her own site. What was an absolutely gorgeous display of creativity and preciousness has been spoiled by disrespectful, greedy and malicious people. Although the mother has graciously permitted individuals to leave a few pictures on our sites, out of respect for her, her work, and especially the adorable Mila, we have chosen to take ours down. We wish them both the best of luck in all their pursuits, artistic and otherwise.
